The Volkswagen Arteon has been a stylish sight on American roads since its arrival in 2019 – and for the 2022 model year, the Arteon received technology and style updates, inside and out, to keep its edge.
Designed to evoke the sportiness of a coupe with the space and flexibility of a midsize sedan, the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon continues to offer the feeling of luxury and power with upgrades to the engine, transmission, interior technology and exterior elements.
The Arteon is even more powerful
The 2022 Arteon received a big boost with an upgrade to a new 2.0-liter TSI® engine – the same evo4 EA888 engine that powers the 8th-generation Golf R and produces 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine brings an increase from former models which offered 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, a seven-speed DSG® transmission with Tiptronic® replaces the eight-speed automatic giving the Arteon the sportiness and performance similar to the all-new Golf R.
The updates to the Arteon engine increase performance and mark the most powerful 4-cylinder sedan Volkswagen has ever offered in the U.S. The powertrain upgrade also brings increased efficiency in model year 2022.
A new definition of sleek
For the 2022 Arteon, the R-Line treatment became standard for the SE trim, rounding out the entire Arteon lineup with R-Line features. The upgrade includes new 18-inch R-Line multispoke alloy wheels, the R-Line logo on the grille and fender, a steering wheel with paddle shifters, contrast stitching on the steering wheel and shift knob, an infotainment R-Line welcome screen and much more.
The 2021 Arteon brought a dramatic upgrade with the addition of a new light bar in its grille. Available on mid-level trims and above for model year 2022, the light bar surrounds the Volkswagen logo and creates a light signature in day and night driving that’s instantly memorable. The light bar, coupled with the unique body shape, and new 18- and 20-inch wheel designs for SE R-Line and SEL R-Line make the Arteon a comparable choice among high-end luxury sedans.
The five available exterior colors, Kings Red Metallic, Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl, Oryx White and Moonstone Gray, all complement this sporty sedan’s aerodynamic sleekness.
A look inside
Inside, the Arteon interior was fully renovated for the 2021 model year with newly available technology, materials and designs, now standard in the 2022 Arteon. The reworked dash features Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit as standard, along with an 8-inch Discover Media touchscreen powered by the latest MIB3 entertainment system. MIB3 offers natural voice control, multi-phone pairing that can easily switch between compatible devices, and wireless App-Connect. For the 2022 model year, wireless charging for compatible devices became standard across all models.
Volkswagen’s interior designers reworked the entire dash, center console and door trims, with upgraded fabrics and leather available throughout for 2021, and now standard for 2022. Available 30-color ambient lighting, aluminum and leather trim surfaces, and even premium stitching give the Arteon more interior ambience than its predecessor.
Heated, power seats are standard in the Arteon, and drivers of the SEL R-Line model enjoy Nappa leather seating surfaces and seat memory settings. The SEL Premium R-Line models include ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats and a massaging function for the driver. Also new and standard across all trims in 2022 is front and rear Park Distance Control.
Additionally, the new generation of multifunction steering wheels featuring digital touch surfaces and center dash located touch controls for the optional three-zone Climatronic® also carry over from the previous model year.
