Connected vehicle 3G sunset

After several years of effort, we have concluded that that there is no permanent technical solution that would restore the desired Car-Net features and meet all our stringent safety and security requirements.  This is not the outcome we had hoped for. This means, if you were subscribed to Car-Net prior to the 3G network sunset, connected vehicle services to your vehicle, including your Car-Net emergency assistance, anti-theft alerts and automatic crash notifications will remain deactivated.

No, the Mojio dongle that was offered for certain 2014-2016 vehicles was an interim measure that was intended to try to restore some, but not all, Car-Net services. The Mojio dongle is no longer being offered. 

As of February 22, 2022, AT&T, the wireless network provider for VW Car-Net, discontinued its 3G wireless network. This decision disabled the VW Car-Net system on Car-Net equipped 2014-2019 Volkswagen models.

AT&T’s decision to sunset its 3G network resulted in the loss of connectivity of the Car-Net telematics on most 2014-2019 Car-Net equipped Volkswagen models. The 3G sunset impacted 2014-2019 Car-Net equipped Volkswagen models. In these vehicles, the green light in the overhead console will no longer illuminate, indicating there is no longer an active connection and the vehicle can no longer transmit or receive data. This means the features below are no longer available and will remain deactivated.

• Remote Access: Remote Lock and Unlock, Remote Honk and Flash, Vehicle Health Reports, Fuel Status, Mileage Trip Statistics, Send POI, Boundary Alerts, Curfew Alerts, Valet Alerts, Speed Alerts and last parked location*

*Remote Unlock/Lock and Remote Panic Button Honk using your vehicle’s key fob are not impacted by the 3G sunset

Due to the 3G sunset, the delayed charge feature provided by Car-Net is no longer available.

On the 2015 e-Golf, the charge schedule was set up through the Car-Net mobile app or the web portal. As 3G services ended in February 2022 and the vehicle can no longer use Car-Net, the vehicle is likely still using the last used settings saved in the associated app/web portal.
