Yes, you are responsible for any taxes assessed by the state where your car is registered. For states that charge sales tax at lease inception on the entire value of the vehicle, no monthly tax will be added to your payments. For states that require sales tax to be billed monthly, you will see an itemized charge on your monthly invoice from Volkswagen Financial Services. Your monthly tax rate may change as a result of changes in your state or local tax rates or if you move to a new location.
If you live in (or move to) a state that assesses property tax on vehicles (AK, AR, CT, LA, MA, MO, NC, RI, TX, VA, or WV), some local taxing jurisdictions will send Volkswagen Financial Services a tax bill for your leased vehicle. Typically, this billing occurs once a year and timing varies by state. Any property tax that Volkswagen Financial Services pays on your behalf to the state will be added to your account balance and listed separately on your monthly statement for payment.
Note: Automatic payments will deduct the total amount due in addition to personal property taxes that become due, so it is important for you to know when your state assesses personal property taxes.
The amount shown on your invoice or on My Account reflects past due payments + late fees + your standard monthly payment. When you are logged in to My Account , click “Make a payment” on the homepage to see a breakdown of what is past due (and needs to be paid as soon as possible) and what is due on your normal payment due date.

Once your vehicle is paid off and you have completed and returned the Bill of Sale and Odometer Statement, Volkswagen Financial Services will send you your vehicle’s title and lien release. Depending on the state you live in, this could be sent electronically or by mail.
Paper titles are generally mailed and electronic titles and/or liens are released to the DMV approximately 10 business days after the account is paid in full. In some states, this might be faster as required by state law. Please understand there may be additional processing time at the DMV before receiving your vehicle title.
1. Assess your vehicle. Complete any maintenance recommended in your Volkswagen Service Schedule and warranty repairs before your lease ends. Also, see our wear and use guidelines to help you get a sense of what is considered excess wear and use.
2. Schedule your complimentary vehicle inspection. Contact AiM, a third-party inspection company, to schedule an inspection at your home, office, or dealership. You may contact AiM at + 1 844 264 9704 Mon – Fri, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST and Sat 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. EST. Or visit https://selfschedule.aiminspect.com at your convenience to schedule an inspection appointment online. Note: Volkswagen Financial Services only accepts inspections done by AiM to determine if there are charges for excess wear and use.
3. Make repairs. After the inspection, you’ll receive an inspection report, which will be valid for 60 days. You have the option of having any required repairs completed on your own at a Volkswagen Authorized Collision Repair Facility prior to turn-in if you choose to do so. If you do not have repairs completed, the repair costs will be added to your final invoice. You cannot repair the items on the inspection report yourself.
- If you have damage repaired on your own at a Volkswagen Authorized Collision Repair Facility, please email your receipts to repairreceipt@vwcredit.com before you turn in the vehicle.
- The receipts must show the details of the repairs completed, proof of payment, as well as identifying vehicle identification (i.e., VIN, make, model, and year). You cannot repair items on the inspection report yourself.
- If there is damage to your vehicle prior to turning it in, but after the inspection has been completed, you will need to have any damage repaired to avoid excess wear and use charges on your final invoice. After the damage is repaired and prior to turning in your vehicle, please email the repair receipt(s) to repairreceipt@vwcredit.com.
4. Turn in your vehicle. Contact your original or preferred Volkswagen dealer to schedule a time to turn in the vehicle prior to lease-end. To locate an authorized dealership near you, visit Find a Volkswagen Dealer. Note: The dealer where you leased your vehicle is required to take your vehicle back; however, if you need to return your vehicle to another dealer, contact them to ensure they will accept your vehicle.
- Upon the vehicle’s return, the dealer will send Volkswagen Financial Services, and provide you with a copy of the Lessee Vehicle Return Receipt and the Odometer Disclosure Statement. To ensure your vehicle is reported as returned, please upload the documents on My Account through our Help Center. Once we receive the documents—and confirm this with you—you may safely cancel your insurance.
5. Receive your final invoice. You will receive your final invoice in the mail within six weeks of the date we receive your Odometer Disclosure Statement. The invoice may contain inspection damage not repaired prior to turn-in, excess mileage charges, any outstanding obligations, taxes, a turn-in fee, and your security deposit, if applicable.

When you are in a financing contract, your payments have two main components: principal and interest. During your lease, you may have deferred payments. In addition to your last monthly payment, your final payment will include these deferred payments. For example, if you deferred two months of payments, instead of having one monthly payment due on your final payment date, you would have three monthly payments due. If this final payment is not paid in full, late charges may be applied. You may also experience credit reporting impacts.
If you are enrolled in AutoPay and you deferred any monthly payments, the automatic withdrawal of your final payment will include your final monthly payment along with these deferred payments.
During your financing contract, you may be eligible to extend some monthly payments. Your financing contract will extend an additional month per skipped payment, with interest accruing daily on the extended payments at the Annual Percentage Rate disclosed on your Contract.

Lease
Most standard leases are calculated based on a specified number of miles you can drive, typically 15,000 or fewer per year. You can negotiate a higher mileage limit, but you will normally have an increased monthly payment, since the vehicle’s depreciation will be greater during your lease term. If you exceed the mileage limit set in the lease agreement, you’ll need to pay additional charges when you return the vehicle.
Eligible customers will have the option to purchase additional miles at the halfway point during their lease.
Details of the offer are available once you’ve received a communication from Volkswagen Financial Services.
To inquire about extending the mileage on your lease, you can reach out to Volkswagen Financial Services by logging into My Account to send a secure message via the Help Center.
For a vehicle lease not through Volkswagen Financial Services, contact your lease holder to see what options are available.
Check your lease agreement to determine the total mileage allowance for your lease term. Your lease agreement also shows how many miles you are allotted monthly.
Your lease-end date is available on your monthly statements, as well as your leasing contract. You may also view your lease-end date by viewing your account on My Account.
The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as when your lease term began. If certain accessories affect your ability to return the vehicle in this condition, we advise against such personalization. For more information, you can view your lease agreement when you log in to My Account and navigate to Help Center > Document Center.

You may purchase your vehicle at any time during your lease. To start a direct purchase, log in to My Account and select “Get a payoff quote” on the homepage.
For Colorado, Florida, and South Dakota customers: Any off-lease purchase must be made at your local or preferred Volkswagen dealership.
1. Obtain a Purchase Agreement Package by logging in to My Account and selecting “Get a payoff quote” on the homepage. It will contain a Bill of Sale or Agreement and Odometer Disclosure Statement, a Titling Information page, and a checklist to help you complete the documents.
2. Continue the payoff process online, just like you would make a one-time payment. You can also make a check payable to VCI Account Services, LLC, and mail it to the address in your quote package. Guaranteed funds (e.g., a cashier’s check) will speed up the processing of your request for title. Please allow 2-4 weeks to receive your title and final purchase documents.
- If you paid a security deposit at the beginning of your lease, it will be used to lower the payoff price.
- With your authorization, Volkswagen Financial Services will send the title to any address you provide. We cannot release the title in the name of a third party. You may want to consult your local license and registration office to inquire about the details of selling to a third party.
3. Take your title, Bill of Sale, and Odometer Disclosure Statement to your local Department of Motor Vehicles to transfer the ownership of the title. The Department of Motor Vehicles will require you to fill out a title application. If you financed your vehicle through Volkswagen Financial Services, be sure to list us as the lienholder. The address is as follows:
Volkswagen Financial Services
Attn: Payoff Department
P.O. Box 94026

Balloon contract
When you signed your balloon contract, you automatically became the owner of your vehicle. At the end of your contract, you’ll have two options:
1. Sell back and return your vehicle
- To transfer ownership back to Volkswagen Financial Services (in addition to the same steps as for a lease), you will need to complete and return both a Power of Atorney form and Motor Vehicle Sales Agreement.
Please note that a Power of Attorney form* is required for each party listed on the title. Both forms will be mailed to you separately approximately 90 days before your term ends, shortly after receiving your Wear & Use Guide. Simply sign the forms in front of a licensed notary and send back to us. In the Power of Attorney form, leave the current mileage and appointed attorney lines blank.
Prior to returning your vehicle, please send your Power of Attorney form(s) and vehicle title** (if applicable) to:
Volkswagen Financial Services
Attn: Lease End Operations
3800 Hamlin Road
Auburn Hills, MI 48326
*Vehicles titled in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Oregon, or Washington require a state-specific Power of Attorney Form and will be mailed to you separately.
**If your vehicle is titled in Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, or Wyoming, please also include your title.
2. Pay off your balance as one lump sum payment
- You may also have the opportunity to refinance your vehicle. Refer to your balloon contract addendum for details.

During your lease, you may be eligible to defer some monthly payments. Any deferred payments will be due at the same time as your last monthly payment. For example, if you defer two months of payments, instead of having one monthly payment due on your final payment date, you would have three monthly payments due. If this final payment is not paid in full, late charges may be applied. You may also experience credit reporting impacts.
If you are enrolled in AutoPay and you defer any monthly payments, the automatic withdrawal of your final payment will include your final monthly payment along with these deferred payments.
